WCA ANNOUNCES 2021 JOYCE STEIN MEMORIAL AWARD RECIPIENT

Nancy and Charley Jones Honored for Making a Positive Impact on the Growth and Advancement of Women

Boise, ID – Nancy and Charley Jones were honored as the 2021 Joyce Stein Memorial Award Winners on September 15, 2021, at an outdoor awards celebration in Boise, Idaho. This is the 42nd presentation of this award by the Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) in Boise, Idaho.

According to CEO Bea Black, the Joyce Stein Award is presented yearly by the WCA in honor and memory of Joyce Ann Stein (1937-1979), a longtime supporter and friend of the WCA. The award is given to a Treasure Valley resident who has made “a positive impact on the growth and advancement of women.” This may have been accomplished through a unique project and/or through a personal history of dedication.

The Jones have been longtime supporters of the WCA individually and several years ago, the launch of statewide outreach and awareness campaign through their company, Stinker Stores, called “Piece of Hope,” benefitted six domestic violence service providers in Idaho. The campaign has now branched out into the Company’s Wyoming and Colorado operations and has raised more than $600,000 to benefit programs for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault in the three states. Perhaps even more important to the financial support, this campaign provides information about local resources to community members about how to access the life-changing programs in their geographic areas.

Nancy and Charley were nominated by a longtime family friend and WCA board member, Tyley Nelson, who, along with others, spoke to the Jones vast support of their staff and community through scholarships, and other fundraising campaigns for the Idaho Foodbank, sponsoring families during the holidays, supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Kiwanis, sponsoring college, high school and grade school sporting events and, of course, the University of Idaho (Charley’s alma mater). They have supported the donation of fuel to many organizations, supported Rake up Boise and Paint the Town through the Neighborworks program, and many other local community efforts in the towns and cities where their employees live and work.

Nancy Jones is Owner and Vice President of Stinker Stores. She is a native Idahoan, born and raised in Burley. She has a business degree in economics from the University of Idaho and an MBA from Colorado State. Charley Jones is Owner and President of Stinker Stores. He was raised in Boise and graduated with honors from the University of Idaho in 1974, earning a BS Business degree with an Accounting major. Charley is a Certified Public Account (CPA) and began his business career in Boise, working for the public accounting firm that is now Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited. Charley and his wife Nancy have two teenage sons, Nikolaus and Duncan.
