When I was a child in Boise many years ago, the most important things to me were playing with my friends and what day the pool at Lowell would open for the summer.  Times have changed!  Children today are much more involved in the community and care deeply about others who are less fortunate.  There have been several examples of this in the last month that are very special:

Girl Scout Troop 461 from Sage International Elementary School brought in a large donation of new clothes, baby supplies, a brand-new stroller and more—and Girl Scout cookies!  Their donations were purchased with the proceeds of their cookie sales.  The girls viewed photos of Serena’s House, our 24-hour emergency shelter, and asked many questions.

Tayson Tiffany, a 5-year old boy, was selling tickets to Hawks games for his baseball team.  He sold extra tickets so he could donate 12 tickets to the families at the WCA.  Tayson is one of our youngest donors ever!

A girl who wanted to remain anonymous, about 8 years old, brought a donation into the Thrift shop.  She donated 2 sets of silverware, a serving bowl, a $50 gift card to Walmart and $40 in cash.

It is so wonderful that compassionate philanthropy is beginning early with the young people in our community.  It’s very inspiring, and we thank all the parents and teachers who are leading the way by opening the conversations with children.  We are very grateful.
