WALTER AND LEONA DUFRESNE FUND SUPPORTS COUNSELING SERVICES
The Idaho Community Foundation approves grant from Walter and Leona Dufresne Fund to sustain direct victim counseling.
Boise, ID – The Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) has been awarded a grant of $2,000 from the Walther and Leona Dufresne Fund through the Idaho Community Foundation. The funds will be used to sustain the WCA’s direct victim counseling component, which yearly supports hundreds of women, men and children whose lives have been negatively impacted by domestic violence and/or sexual violence.
In the past 12 months, the WCA has provided 9,658 “safe bed nights” to 169 women and children. This means they were able to sleep without fear – something most people take for granted. Licensed WCA clinicians also provided healing to these residential clients and many other community clients through 2,632 individual counseling sessions.
“We are so grateful and honored to receive this grant,” said Bea Black, WCA Executive Director. “Funding like this makes it possible for us to continue our mission, providing safety, healing and freedom to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault in the Boise area.”
In addition to counseling services, the WCA offers safe shelter, case management, court advocacy, education and a variety of other integrated services and programs to women, men and children victimized by abuse.
