What do you do in your job at the WCA?
I do one-on-one safety planning appointments, civil protection order assistance, and I specialize in safety planning with technology.
How long have you been with the WCA?
I have worked as a Victim Advocate for a year, and I worked as a Client Advocate for 6 months prior to that– so a total 1.5 years
Where did you work prior to the WCA?
I worked for a while at the Cottonwood Grille as a server, I have worked as a Volleyball Coach part time since college, and before Cottonwood I spent a year working various jobs in New Zealand.
What do you find most rewarding about your work at the WCA?
I love being able to help a client realize that they have options. Clients come to me and feel like they are stuck and there is nothing that they can do. Being able to help a client identify the abuse and come up with tangible ways to keep themselves safe is a very rewarding feeling.
How have you changed or grown as a person through your work here?
Through working here I have learned so much and been given so many opportunities to develop professionally. The WCA has given me so many opportunities to expand my knowledge of victim’s services and it is wonderful to work in such a supportive environment.
Is there a memorable moment or story that you’d like to share that you have experienced at the WCA?
One of my favorite moments since I have worked here happened recently. I assisted a client with a protection order for a sexual assault. The client had experienced years of abuse, but never felt comfortable coming forward. The client told me that she was so grateful that she was receiving such great support from each agency that she dealt with. It is such a great feeling to be a part of a network that is truly working for our clients.
