WCA Student Champion Program

In order to achieve the WCA vision of fostering a community where individuals thrive in safe, healthy relationships we realize that we need to be focusing some of our efforts on the next generation, to help ensure that they will never need our services. This is why the WCA is particularly excited to roll out the first stages of a new program that is geared specifically toward young people in our community: The WCA Student Champion Program.

Staff Spotlight: Meet Melinda

Melinda Romayor, WCA Client Advocate II

What do you do in your job at the WCA?

I advocate for families by validating their experience and feelings, helping to explore their options, providing resources, helping to assess their situation, fears, and needs, and assuring them that they are not alone or “going crazy”.

Supporting Our Clients

We are so lucky to have so many inspiring supporters of the WCA who continually warm our hearts with their generosity of time and donations. This month we would like to highlight some of our student supporters in particular. Having the support of students is especially exciting for the WCA because it means that the young people in our community are talking about these issues and starting conversations among their peers. With their help and their continued support we are one step closer to breaking the cycle of abuse in our community.

Providing for Kids

Create Common Good And St. Luke’s Team Up To Provide For Kids In Childcare At The Women’s And Children’s Alliance

Boise, ID – Create Common Good (CCG) and St. Luke’s Health System teamed up recently to provide healthy snacks for the children in childcare at the Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) licensed child care at the secure domestic violence shelter, Serena’s House, and the drop-in childcare at the WCA’s downtown location.

Denim Day 2015

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the individuals who participated in Denim Day 2015 on April 29th. We were so happy to see the outpouring of support within our community for victims of sexual assault. We received countless photos throughout the day of individuals and organizations wearing jeans and/or the ‘Ask Me About Denim Day’ stickers, all of which can be found here.

Bea Black, Executive Director

Almost all of our funding comes to us in order to provide services to those who have suffered the trauma of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Yet we know that if we are ever to break the cycle we need to help prevent individuals from getting into these destructive and often violent relationships in the first place!

From Bev’s Desk

Bev La Chance, Deputy Director

I’m often asked, “what is it like to live in a domestic violence shelter?” Residents can expect a team of well-trained staff who understand the dynamics of abuse and the impact of trauma.
