At each of the “If These Walls Could Talk” tours at the WCA, and at every community presentation, we talk about the Power and Control Wheel. This educational tool reveals that not all abusive relationships are violent or even physical, but that controlling behavior can be very abusive. Our guests have told us how enlightening that can be, by breaking the stereotype that physical violence is always present in abusive relationships. The other wheel we present is the Equality Wheel, which describes a healthy relationship, and is exactly the opposite of the Power and Control Wheel. We talk often about healthy relationships, so new choices can be made by those whose lives have been negatively impacted by power and control.
