Ada County Juvenile Court Services did a huge wish list donation drive for us in honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week this April. We are so grateful for the work they do and are very moved at the work they did to support us. The items they brought will help our families in the shelter with everything from toothpaste and toothbrushes to laundry soap and toilet paper, plus fun toys for the kids. What an amazing group of people!

We asked Marissa Evans, the Victim Services Specialist from the Ada County Juvenile Court Services about the donation.

Please describe your donation
After working in an emergency shelter for domestic violence victims myself, I saw how quickly everyday household items are used by the residents and their children. My donation drive was based on this need in hopes of collecting items we thought the shelter residents might go through daily. With National Crime Victims’ Rights Week held in April, I saw this as the perfect time to give back to the victims in our community and do what we can as an agency to help. On top of the donations received from the employees at Ada County Juvenile Court Services, we were thankful to receive donations from the Ada County Highway District office in Boise and the Trial Court Administrator’s Mediation Office.

Why do you think giving back to the community is important?
Giving back to the community is a pillar of my work in victim services. It’s one of the reasons I love this field so much. It allows me to connect with people and be involved in making our community a better place. I love Boise, and people here are always so willing to help others. It makes me proud to live and work in this community. Beyond anything else, giving back allows us to help strengthen our community, and with this drive we had the chance to make a direct impact.

Why did you choose to support the WCA?
The WCA offers such comprehensive victim services. Because the donation was in honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, it was important to give our donations to an agency that worked closely with victims in our community. The WCA is always so great to work with; your staff is always cheerful and offers great resources. I am always confident referring victims knowing that they will be very safe and cared for.
