BANK OF AMERICA CHARITABLE FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER SERVICES
Boise, ID – The Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) has been awarded a grant of $5,000 from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Inc. The funds will be used to maintain the viability of the WCA’s secure shelters, which are critical to the safety and well-being of victims of domestic and/or sexual violence.
Leaving an abusive relationship is often a high-risk decision. For many domestic violence victims, leaving means that they may not be able to properly feed their children or keep them emotionally and physically safe.
“By ensuring the viability and sustainability of the WCA’s shelter network, The Bank of America Charitable Foundation is making a critical contribution to the safety and well-being of domestic violence victims in our community.” said Bev La Chance, Deputy Director for the Women’s and Children’s Alliance.
In the last fiscal year, the WCA provided 13,197 “safe bed nights” to for 76 women and 103 children. This means they were able to sleep without fear – something most people take for granted. Licensed WCA clinicians also provided healing to these residential clients and many other community clients through 2,823 individual counseling sessions.
In addition to counseling services for children, the WCA offers safe shelter, case management, court advocacy, life skills classes, financial education, and a variety of other integrated services and programs to women, men and children victimized by abuse.
