November 2013

In this season of Thanksgiving – I am very grateful for the awesome Board of Directors that I have the privilege of working with! October was the start of a new year for our Board, with some Board members retiring and others joining our Board for the first time. After our October Annual Meeting and Board elections we have seventeen highly engaged and passionate Board members that I consider to be partners in the important work of the organization. It is also the time that new officers are elected and along with the rest of the Board take on the responsibility for providing the fiscal oversight that is so critical to the long-term sustainability of any organization, whether they be a nonprofit or for-profit endeavor. While the role of the Board is often invisible, it is the partnership between an organization’s management and the Board which sets the tone for the organization’s culture and direction for the work that it does.  The importance of this partnership cannot be overstated.  I am grateful every day for the individuals that have chosen to volunteer their time with the WCA in this manner!
