Celebrating Community Partners
Boise Bicycle Project (BBP) is known throughout Boise for the amazing work that they do. However, you might not know that beyond their work to make Boise the bicycle capital of the US, they are also a continual resource for WCA clients. In fact, our case managers refer individuals to them on a weekly basis.
Many of our clients do not have a mode of transportation which can act as a barrier to employment, education, and independence. However, through BBP’s work trade program our clients are able to get great bikes for little to no costs, while being educated on bike care and maintenance. Individuals we refer to BBP are able to walk away empowered by the program and with working bikes that are fitted to their needs.
The staff at Boise Bicycle Project doesn’t stop there though. They also are a great resource for the hundred-plus children that utilize our services each year. Our staff is able to refer the kids we work with to BBP’s Kids B.A.S.H., a weekly free safety class for kids ages 5-11. Here, the kids not only learn about bike safety, but they also receive a free bike and helmet. Finally, through their annual Christmas Kid’s Bike Giveaway, Boise Bicycle Project donated 10 bicycles to our children clients this past December.
It is amazing the profound impact organizations can have when they work together, and we are so grateful to have this wonderful resource in our community.
