Finding safe, affordable housing has become increasingly difficult for many in the Treasure Valley, including WCA clients looking to transition out of the shelter with their children. In response to this growing need, last year the WCA Board decided to embark on a Capital Campaign to add a new building at our shelter campus and expand the transitional housing resources available for clients. By increasing the number of rooms available, we will be able to provide safe shelter to those needing extra time to find appropriate housing once they are ready to leave our emergency shelter.
By July of 2015, our Capital Campaign Hope Needs Space to Grow was underway. The plans for the new shelter are simple: eight more transitional housing rooms for families on the ground floor. This will free up the needed short-term emergency shelter rooms at our existing shelter, Serena’s House, and double our capacity to accommodate those who need extra time to secure long-term housing. The addition will aid hundreds of families over the coming years. The second story of the new building will allow for future expansion, enabling the WCA to provide additional shelter rooms and critical on site program services like counseling, case management and financial literacy.
We asked the Boise community to join us in helping to address this need– and the community responded! We are humbled and thrilled to say, we have not just reached our goal of $1.4 million dollars but instead are now approaching the $1.5 million mark.
Achieving this goal has told us something for certain: our community is ready for change. The work of the Women’s and Children’s Alliance is supported by incredible donors, volunteers, and friends like you. With this initial support; we will be able to break ground as soon as it thaws this spring. Our fundraising efforts for Hope Needs Space to Grow will continue into 2016 as we raise funds to Take Hope to the Next Level and work to finish the second story.
To those who have already donated: You are helping provide new beginnings for the people who need it most. We thank you for your generosity and we thank you for becoming part of this legacy to provide safety, healing, and freedom from domestic abuse and sexual assault.
