What a busy and crazy week, with COVID infections rising nationwide and election information (and disinformation) dominating every form of media. Here at the WCA, our focus has not changed. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and we continue concentrating on raising awareness in hopes that those who need us will reach out and find the support they need.
The We Art Women virtual fundraising event, hosted by some of our amazing community supporters, begins today and runs through Wednesday, October 28, raising money to support our vital children’s services. Providing safe shelter to children, caring for them in a licensed childcare setting with specially trained staff, scheduling individual counseling sessions with a master’s level clinician—these services can help break the generational cycle of domestic abuse for our youngest clients. I invite you to go online to check out the wonderfully talented local musicians. Check out WeArtWomenWCA for an overview of times and items. The gift of talent in support of our youngest clients is indeed humbling.
In addition to the start of We Art Women today, I was able to attend the unveiling of one more “purple ribbon” car. I am delighted to let you know that Meridian Police Department has added a purple ribbon patrol car to its fleet. These vehicles provide a visual reminder to our communities that our law enforcement officers acknowledge the devastating consequences of domestic abuse and violence and are ready to support victims in their time of need. Our partnership with law enforcement helps ensure clients are connected with us to receive the services and support they need.
Finally, we are just a week away from our Healing Begins with Hope Outreach and Fundraising Event. Going virtual for the first time ever, you can join us for this special event on Friday, October 30 at noon or at 7 p.m., and Saturday, October 31 at 10 a.m. Follow this Hope Event link to register.
