What is Domestic Abuse?
This question is the focus of our public awareness campaign for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
While physical violence is a frightening and dangerous component of domestic violence – and something to never be taken lightly, domestic violence is not just a slap, a punch or an argument that turns violent. It is a pattern of behaviors used by one partner to maintain power and control over another partner in an intimate relationship.
In September, we launched the first components of our =Domestic Abuse campaign for Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the Boise Weekly and on Lamar Advertising outdoor billboards in the Boise area.
In October, we followed up with a poster campaign that blanketed billboards throughout Ada County and rolled out our social media campaign on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram where we have been sharing these ads and other relevant information about the prevalence of domestic violence as well as the nature of all types of abuse in an effort to educate our community.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the U.S. and while we have made great strides in bringing awareness to this insidious issue, we have more work to do. Together we can make change for our sisters, neighbors, sons and daughters, and friends we have yet to meet. Please help us in our effort to start conversations and break the cycle of domestic violence. Join Us #DVAMTurns30 #KnowTheFacts
