November 2013
Domestic violence month has come and gone. The Clothesline t-shirts have been put away, purple ribbons have found a home in desk drawers, and planned activities have been completed. A nicely coordinated educational/awareness outreach, however there continues to be work that needs to be done. Too many homes and relationships bear the markings of fear and intimidation. According to the national Network to End Domestic Violence, sadly, each day 3 women in this nation die because of domestic violence. To date, in Idaho, 12 fatalities related to domestic violence have been documented, an increase of 2 deaths over the same time period one year ago. The conversation concerning domestic violence needs to be on-going and loud. Silence allows this insidious crime to go unheard.
