A shout out to both the Allstate Foundation and Verizon Wireless for their recent grant support of the WCA’s financial literacy program.  The program was established in 2010 and was originally a collaborative of six area agencies serving victims of domestic violence .  It utilizes an evidence-based curriculum that was specifically developed to empower women to achieve economic self-sufficiency through personal financial and money management education.  The hope is that it will create a multi-generational shift in feelings and values about money by empowering women to bring their children in to healthy, productive conversations about money and credit systems.  Currently, a number of Memorandums of Understanding have been executed with area victim service agencies and the WCA Financial Literacy Educator is delivering the curriculum on site.  In 2015 , 288 individuals participated in financial literacy with 89% graduating.  Seventy-six coaching sessions were delivered.  The program has been well received and is part of a conduit of client services that may lead to job training.
