For those of you who have some history with the WCA, you will remember the spectacular fundraising extravaganza, Celebration of Women in the Arts/We Art Women. For seventeen years, it paired together visual and performing artists – with spice being supplied by the DIVA’s – in an extraordinary celebration benefiting the Women’s and Children’s Alliance. It was Rocci Johnson who first brought this idea forward and it was Hannah’s who hosted the event for many years. Fast forward to January 2016, Metamorphosis was born. A group of the original celebration suspects, Zella Bardsley, Rocci Johnson, Julie Clemons and Lou Ann Hales, met with me to discuss a smaller, but no less committed to the WCA’s cause, event to be held at the Art Source on January 14th. The visual arts community once again stepped up and donated fantastic artwork for the silent and live auctions and for sale items with 30% of proceeds earmarked for the WCA. The DIVA’s rocked the evening (see photo below) and Barbacoa supplied finger food – crab legs, shrimp and more, I ate it all! The WCA owes all of the participating artists a huge debt of gratitude. Their support of the WCA is instrumental in the WCA achieving its mission of safety, healing and freedom. We hope to see you next year for this fantastic event – Let the good times roll!
