This month’s staff spotlight is on Jennifer Leigh Spencer, the new Volunteer and Events Coordinator at the WCA. Since joining the WCA in March 2017, Jenn has become an invaluable part of the team. She coordinates volunteers for various WCA activities and programs, as well as manages event logistics for the many fundraising and outreach events that occur year-round.

The WCA has opened Jenn’s eyes to how serious an issue domestic abuse is, and how prevalent it can be in our communities. “Since many of our survivors keep their abuse hidden to the public and even family and friends,” Jenn said, “it is so important to provide a safe place where they can heal in the comfort of people who have a commitment to helping them become the best they can be for them and their children.” Jenn is very grateful for the opportunity to work with the community and with volunteers who have a real passion for the WCA’s mission to break the cycle of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Last month, Jenn spearheaded the Back to School Sponsorship program for young clients of the WCA. This program yielded one of her most memorable moments from her time at the WCA. Jenn shared, “When I called a client with five children to let her know that we would be able to provide several gift cards to help with her back to school expenses, she broke down in tears which of course, turned on my waterworks. She was so grateful and it touched me so deeply that we have such a generous community that is able to provide a wonderful school year for true families in need. I am very blessed to be a part of the WCA!”

Prior to joining the WCA, Jenn worked as the Grants and Events Manager at Girl Scouts of Silver Sage for five years.
