BANK OF AMERICA FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER SERVICES

Boise, ID – The Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA) has been awarded a grant of $5,000 from the Bank of America Foundation. The funds will be used to maintain the viability of the WCA’s secure shelters, which are critical to the safety and well-being of victims of domestic and/or sexual violence.

Leaving an abusive relationship is often a high risk decision. For many domestic violence victims, leaving means that they may not be able to properly feed their children or keep them emotionally and physically safe.

“By ensuring the viability and sustainability of the WCA’s shelter network, The Bank of America Foundation is making a critical contribution to the safety and well-being of domestic violence survivors in our community.” said Bev La Chance, Deputy Director for the Women’s and Children’s Alliance.

In the past 12 months, the WCA has provided 9,658 “safe bed nights” to 169 women and children.

This means they were able to sleep without fear – something most people take for granted. Licensed WCA clinicians also provided healing to these residential clients and many other community clients through 2,632 individual counseling sessions

In addition to counseling services, the WCA offers safe shelter, case management, court advocacy, education and a variety of other integrated services and programs to women, men and children victimized by abuse.
