Rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment harm our community, and statistics show that 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men will be raped in their lifetimes. The theme of this year’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaign is “Embrace Your Voice.” Whether you speak out against locker room talk or help someone better understand these issues, your voice in powerful and necessary in this conversation. How will you embrace your voice this month?
Denim Day is on Wednesday, April 25th. Denim Day is a day-long awareness campaign that allows us to honor survivors of sexual assault and start conversations about the dangers of victim blaming. Read the Denim Day story and get involved by requesting Denim Day materials online.

Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s
The WCA was grateful to be chosen as one of the beneficiary nonprofits of Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s, alongside Canine Companions for Independence. The WCA received over $500 in donations from the day to go to supporting our clients – wow!
WCA volunteers were hard at work to help bring Free Cone Day to the community. A total of nine WCA volunteers came out to scoop ice cream, take donations, and most importantly, to create a welcoming experience for all ice cream lovers.

Volunteer Appreciation Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It is also a very special month for the volunteer team here at the WCA, as it is also Volunteer Appreciation Month. This year’s theme for Sexual Assault Awareness Month is “embrace your voice”. For staff and volunteers at the WCA, embracing our voices means speaking out against rape culture and violent behaviors, ending victim blaming, and supporting survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
WCA volunteers embrace their voice every time they assist us with an event, project or in our facilities. They are vital to the work that we do to support survivors.

Corporate Pillar Spotlight: Keller Williams Realty Boise
The WCA is very grateful for the generous Corporate Pillars support of Keller Williams Realty Boise. Over 570 real estate agents work for Keller Williams Realty Boise and many support the WCA’s efforts to help our shelter children and women with their daily needs and also help fund our important work in the community.
Keller Williams Realty Boise is an extraordinary company, having over $2,500,000,000 in sales in 2017 and is aligned with the #1 real estate company in the United Staets. The Boise office is run by Founder & Co-Owner Erica Hill and Co-Owner & President Stacie States. When asked why they choose to support the WCA, Erica says: “Over the 100+ years WCA has been here in the Treasure Valley, they have massively and positively impacted our community through their support of hundreds of families in need of a fresh start. It is an honor to align with and support this organization.”

Donor Spotlight: CHF Home Furnishings and Renditions Furniture
In March, the WCA received brand new couches and chairs for our lobby and client offices courtesy of two philanthropic businesses in the Treasure Valley, CHF Home Furnishings and Renditions Furniture.
Thank you to these two wonderful companies for their generosity and support of our mission. Their donations help us keep clients relaxed and comfortable while allowing us to spend more of our funding on direct client support. According to the American Psychological Association, environments with softer light and comfortable furnishings allow clients to feel safer and promotes positive interactions between therapists and clients.
