Concert for Cause
Concert for Cause on December 2 was a fabulous and magical night. Sponsored by The River 94.9 and The Knitting Factory, a sold out show by Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats was enjoyed by close to 1,000 enthusiastic guests.
A highlight of the evening’s festivities included live and silent auctions, which together helped raise over $37,000 for the WCA’s direct client services. This was the sixth year the WCA has been honored as Concert for Cause’s beneficiary.

A New Bike Shed at Serena’s House
We are excited to say that a new bike shed and fence have been installed at Serena’s House. This is a great addition to the shelter that will help protect bikes and strollers and keep them clean and functional for our clients.
What is most amazing, however, is that the materials and labor for the new bike shed including an overhead structure, large cement pad and a new bike rack in addition to a fence that encloses the irrigation and outside power was completely donated by Brighton Homes. The project manager overseeing the project with Brighten Homes, Kameron Nauah let us know that the owner of Robell Fence, Chris Taylor, donated all time and material to the project as well. Kameron of Brighton Homes, told the WCA, “I just thought it was really cool of those guys to donate everything in the Christmas spirit.” We couldn’t agree more!

Board Member Spotlight: Kris Ormseth
Kris Ormseth leaves the board of directors after a long legacy of leadership beginning in 2005. As a national and local award winning attorney and partner with the law firm Stoel Rives LLP., he has generously shared his talent, knowledge and passion with the WCA for more than a decade as the organization works toward realizing its vision of a community where we all live in safe, healthy relationships.
“In addition to his work on the board, he has been a wonderful advocate for the organization, supporting our work throughout the community both within his law firm as well as the other organizations with which he is involved,” said Bea Black, WCA Executive Director.

Donor Spotlight: New Hope Society Members
This year’s Healing Begins with Hope Breakfast was a record setting year due largely to the dedicated donors who contributed to the Challenge Match Gift. Their combined contributions matched $125,000 of new Hope Society member pledges and existing Hope Society extensions or upgrades. Thanks to their gifts, the WCA has 26 new Hope Society members. Hope Society members are multi-year donors who believe passionately in the work we do.

Corporate Pillar Spotlight: Concrete Construction Supply
We are so grateful for the Corporate Pillars support of Concrete Construction Supply (CCS). The WCA has been so fortunate to have a wonderful relationship with CCS for the past five years. When asked why the company chooses to support the WCA, owner Ken Fernandez says “We should all be involved in a great cause. The WCA is just such a cause.” Ken and his wife Sherry Fernandez, owner of FitMania, have been outstanding supporters of the WCA’s work in the community. Sherry created FitMania’s World’s Biggest Boot Camp which over the past four years has raised thousands of dollars to help with the WCA’s important clients’ needs.

Volunteer Spotlight: BSU Nonprofit Management 240 Class
This month, we have been so grateful to the Boise State University Nonprofit Management 240 class for sending us a group of 8 volunteers to complete service learning hours. WCA representatives Megan Skinner, Diana Burrell, and Jennifer Spencer were invited to come and speak to their class among many other nonprofits in the Treasure Valley area. Some of these nonprofits included Boise Bicycle Project, Create Common Good, the Idaho Nonprofit Center, and the Idaho Horror Film Festival. The students could then choose with which nonprofit they would like to volunteer. Lucky for us, they chose the WCA!

The Giving Tree
This year the WCA and the Downtown Boise Association kicked off our annual Giving Tree on November 24 at the Boise Grove. More than 1,800 tags will be hung throughout December on the tree’s fence. If you are still deciding how to give back this time of year, we encourage you to take one of our tags and drops it off to our 720 W Washington location or any Zion’s Bank by December 22.
We are requesting items for our child care, shelters and Washington street facility. This program is important because the items we receive help keep us stocked throughout the spring and early summer months. The best part about the Giving Tree is it fits anyone’s budget! We have items ranging from AA batteries and surge protectors to playpens and car seats for our kiddos.
