The Women’s and Children’s Alliance has the good fortune to participate in the Community Grant from The Deseret Industries, since 2015. In the past two years the Community Grant has provided assistance to twenty five clients that have moved into their new, safe home.  The Community Grant assists clients with securing household items such as; linens, bedding, vacuums, clothes, baby items, dishes, furniture and electronics.

The Community Grant is designed to increase feelings of self-worth and self-sufficiency. It gives clients an opportunity to have a fresh start in a home they can call their own.

“In December of 2016, “Jane” and her four young children moved out of the Shelter Program into their very own apartment. “Jane” had left her partner of almost 20 years with nothing for herself or her children; she was starting over from scratch. The family was able to get assistance from a few local agencies to get beds, but with this grant the family was able to go shopping and find items to make their new apartment their home. They each got linens for their new beds, towels for their bathrooms, some kitchen utensils and dishes, and many smaller items that make a house a home.”

– Ashley Schrieber, Case Manager

“In Case Management the clients work on establishing goals for stability. One of the most important goals for “Laura” was to find safe housing. Living on her own was something that she had never experienced before, as her husband was the sole financial provider for the family. “Laura” was determined to make it and she did. Recently, she was able to establish housing in a beautiful two bedroom apartment. “Laura” accessed the Community Grant to help with the purchase of a dresser, desk, kitchen table, chairs, and a couch that she otherwise may have not been able to get on her own.”

– Amy Howard, Case Manager

These stories are just a snapshot of what the Deseret Industries’ Community Grant does for the clients at the Women’s and Children’s Alliance. With these community partnerships we can help families settle into a safe and comfortable home.
