Here at the WCA we have multiple events that you can attend to help learn more about how this issue impacts our community. Join us at any of these events to help us  in providing safety, healing and freedom to survivors.

Mayor David Bieter has proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the City of Boise. Click here to read the press release.

Clothesline Project

WCA’s annual October outreach and awareness effort, the Clothesline Project, brings light to the realities of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault. Each year, WCA clients decorate shirts in a therapeutic process; these shirts are hung in local businesses, churches, and schools. Click here to learn more about this annual event.

Shades of Blue by Blue Cross of Idaho

WCA Supporter Chad Case, of Chad Case Photography, submitted a one of a kind piece for the WCA, and gave us the chance to win $1,000.00. Follow this link and vote from now until October 9th

KTVB Champions:

From now until October 30th you can vote for the WCA in KTVB’s “Community Champions”. We were nominated by KTVB and Idaho Central Credit Union in “Serving the Homeless and Housing” and “Women” categories. It is a great honor to be included with such other great organizations and first responders.  Use this link to support us and others making a difference in our community. 

One Day Events:

Zee’s Rooftop Cafe

On October 1st from 5-9pm stop by Zee’s Rooftop Café for live music and delicious food! A portion of proceeds from this First Thursday event will be donated to the WCA. See you there!

Whiskey Bar

Casual Creative, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and Tiato Boise have put together the perfect #DVAM kick off event: The Kickback. An amazing cast of Boise artists were given stark white vans slip-ons to create one-of-a-kind art pieces. The shoes will be auctioned off this Thursday, October 1st, at Whiskey Bar. ALL proceeds will be used to purchase shoes for children in need at the WCA. Free food and tastings. Come down between 6 – 10 p.m. Check out the event here.

Alpha Chi Omega Awareness Event

Come down to the Special Events Center on BSU campus at 7pm for this public awareness event. Hosted by the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority at Boise State University, this event is held in honor and support of victims of domestic abuse.

Fallapalooza

Saturday, October 3rd from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. in Ann Morrison Park (near the fountains) an incredible fall festival will take place with Kids’ Carnival, Live Music, Dance Groups, a Pie Eating Contest, Prize Giveaways, and Domestic Violence awareness and outreach. ALL proceeds from this day will go directly to the services the WCA provides. Join us and check out the event on Facebook here.

Spartan World Championship Race

Brandon Grenz is running in the Spartan World Championship Race 2015 and supporting the WCA. He will be running over 14 miles in the Squaw Valley and will face over 30 obstacles along the race.  Check out his page!

SueB 5K

Sunday October 4th in Julia Davis Park we will hold our 6th Annual SueB Memorial 5K Walk/Run. This is a family friendly event complete with bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, food trucks, 103.5 Kiss FM, and so much more. Come walk, run, or stroll along the beautiful Boise Greenbelt at 2 p.m. Proceeds from this day will go to the WCA’s Endowment Fund, helping guarantee the future of our client services. Ambassador Social Media Initiative

Monday October 5th at our 720 W Washington St. location Ambassadors will gather for an in depth tutorial on how you can help us get the word out about the WCA, our Capital Campaign and #DVAM Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We will have wine, beer, iced tea and light appetizers. Social Media Guru Heather Quisel will take us step by step through the best practices of reaching YOUR network of friends and family. We are gathering around 4:30 p.m. and kicking off by 5pm, be sure to bring your laptop, smartphone, and/or tablet!

J.Jill Gently Worn Program

From October 6-12 you can stop by J. Jill for their Gently Worn Program as part of the J.Jill Compassion Fund. Customers are invited to donate gently worn clothing to their local J.Jill store. As a thank you, customers receive a 25% discount on new items in store.  The donated clothing then goes to local partners including The Shop here at the WCA. Stop by and change your wardrobe for the season while contributing to a good cause.

Citi Agency Fair

The WCA will be present at the Citi Agency Fair on October 6th from 10am-2pm. We cannot wait to talk to those who stop by and visit us about the WCA!

Annual Meeting

October 8, 2015 at the WCA, come hear a report about WCA’s financial update. Vote on Board, Announce President, and Honor Special Volunteers.

Ribbon Day

On October 12th we are encouraging members of our community to wear a purple ribbon. This signifies that you are standing in solidarity with survivors and are helping to spread awareness about the impact of Domestic Violence in our community. Ribbons can be picked up at the WCA location on Washington Street. Post pictures on social media with #RibbonDay, #DVAM, #TogetherWeAreStronger, and #WCABoise.

BSU Clothesline Project

On October 13th and 14th from 10am-2pm The WCA and BSU Women’s Center will be tabling at the SUB Patio alongside a Clothesline Project Display. Individuals are invited to paint t-shirts in the Women’s Center in that time frame. Clinicians will be on staff. WE hope to see you there!

FACES Fundraiser

Join us on October 15th located at the 8th and Main Building for a fundraiser benefiting FACES Family Justice Center.

Wear Purple

We invite everyone to wear purple on October 15th to help give a voice to those who cannot speak in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Take pictures of you and your friends wearing purple and post it saying #BreakTheSilence, #WearPurple. #DVAM, and #WCABoise.

Community Financial Literacy Event

At the WCA on October 17th from 12pm- 3pm there we are hosting a financial literacy event with WCA export Deborah DeSousa. This is a great learning opportunity where adults can meet with Deborah and other community experts and children will have their own activities including coloring books and piggy bank making.

Witches Night Out

There is a fun night happening on October 21st at the Village in Meridian. Vendors and stores in the Village will have specials, giveaways and refreshments with proceeds going to the WCA. Check out its page on our calendar.

Yoga Night at BSU

On October 22nd a free yoga class and silent auction will benefit the WCA and the BSU Women’s Center starting at 6pm. This amazing event will be held in the Simplot Ballroom. Bring your mat, some water, and that giving feeling! Learn more here.

Boise VeloWomen Cycling Team Crooked Fence Race

October 31st Bob’s Bicycles is hosting a cyclocross race that will benefit the WCA. Registration fees to participate in the race will go to the services of the Women’s and Children’s Alliance. Check out the Boise Velowomen Facebook page!
